About
Our Story
English Speaking Families in Kassel was founded in February 2026, though the dream behind it had been growing for years. Our founder envisioned a space where families could support one another in raising multilingual children, and celebrate the diverse cultural traditions that connect us to our roots.
In early 2025, English Speaking Families in Kassel began meeting informally to connect and shape what this community could become. By the time we officially registered as a Verein, a vibrant community was already in place—more than fifteen bilingual families who are excited to welcome others into our community.
As our club grows, we are happy to be able to share our language and cultures with other families in Kassel, whether they are bilingual or simply interested in expanding their linguistic and cultural horizons. We offer a number of public events that expose families to different languages and encourage intercultural awareness, tolerance and dialogue.
The Gift of Multilingualism
Raising children with more than one language is one of the greatest gifts a family can give. Research consistently shows that bilingual children develop stronger cognitive flexibility, enhanced problem-solving abilities, and greater mental agility throughout their lives. They often find it easier to learn additional languages later on and demonstrate increased cultural empathy and adaptability.
But maintaining a minority language—especially one that isn’t spoken socially in schools or on the playground—takes intention, consistency, and community. When children see their peers speaking English—when English becomes the language of friendship and play, not just of home and parents—they’re far more likely to embrace it as part of who they are for the rest of their lives. English Speaking Families in Kassel bridges this divide.
Community For Young Families
When you have children, family life often depends on a strong support network: grandparents who help with school pickups, nearby lifelong friends who babysit, cousins who become built-in playmates. For international families, this network is often an ocean away.
English Speaking Families in Kassel fills that gap. When one of our families needs support, we are there - with home-cooked meals for parents welcoming a new baby, tips for finding a babysitter, or simply a shoulder to lean on when parenting gets tough. This is what a strong community looks like - whether you’re a Kassel native or making the city your new home.
Connecting to English Language and Culture
While English is our common thread, our mission extends beyond language preservation. As multilingual, multicultural families, we feel passionately not only about sharing our language skills, but also promoting intercultural tolerance and awareness. We share these passions through outreach events that are open to the public.
Our first program, Bilingual Story Hour, will introduce kids ages 3 to 6 to English language picture books in an accessible, bilingual environment.
